The Jayhawking of Salina

They rode out of the north at dawn. The rough-looking bunch thundered into the small settlement of Salina, Kansas, raising dust, brandishing weapons, and running ponies and mules. Confederate sympathizers caught the town by surprise. In building this Civil War era story, the author uses letters, diaries, reminiscences, and newspaper research to recreate the incident that transpired on Wednesday, September 17, 1862, and continued with the Salina posse’s subsequent pursuit of the raiders. Hope was that soldiers from Fort Riley Military post would join in the chase. 40 pgs.
