Tales of a Sod House Baby by Ellen Verell
A tale of two families who followed the Santa Fe Trail to the “jumping off place,” Dodge City, Kansas, starting in 1879. Through incredible hardships and circumstances not for the faint-hearted, they met on the banks of Crooked Creek, a meandering tributary to the Cimarron River.
This is their story, 1879- 1940, as seen through the eye of the children. One of them, born in one of the last sod houses at the turn of the century, loved to relate the stores told to her by her parents, grandparents and her beloved aunts and uncles.
