A cultural war between state-mandated religion and personal freedom led Thomas Macy to Nantucket Island along with other white settlers in the 1600s. By the 1700s rumblings of the American Revolution led Macy descendants to migrate to Guilford County, North Carolina. There they met the Gordons who had migrated from Delaware. A Macy daughter married a Gordon son and survived the next great conflict, the Civil War. Following those years of hardship, the Gordons migrated once again, to Kansas where they settled in what would become the community of Prairie Center in Johnson County.
Strangers in the Land tells personal stories of these migrants over the centuries from 1659 to 1925.
